Researchers also agree that brightness levels affect the outcome. One analysis found that light below 1,000 lux, roughly the level of a lit indoor room, has little effect on the body clock, while stronger outdoor light produces a much bigger response. Federal workplace-safety guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention makes a similar point, noting the body’s internal clock is most sensitive to light exposure in the morning and evening hours.
